Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa has admonished staff of the company to improve their health and safety culture.

Speaking at the Safety Awareness Day Celebration at the EV Conference Room in Accra, he stated that,

“Improving our Health and Safety Culture for Our Business Sustainability as a selected theme is relevant as well as critical because it perfectly aligns with the Authority’s strategy of ensuring development in a sustainable manner.”

The Authority’s Safety Awareness Day is a thought-out work culture, intended to promote the safety and well-being of VRA staff. Strict adherence to safety ethics has become one of the Authority’s trademarks.

The CEO also commended the WASACO coordinators and its supporting teams for successfully organizing this year’s event. The event was under the theme, “Improving Our Health and Safety Culture for Our Business Sustainability”, and slogan, “A safer You, is a safer Me”, which sort to give further meaning to championing excellence and providing sustainable solution to the Authority’s business.

He said, there is a crucial need to actively deepen our occupational health, safety and well-being practices to protect our workers and impact communities.

He further reiterated that, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) through ISO certifications and benchmarking of OHS performances had signed-off an OHS policy that outlines the OHS objectives of the Authority.

As poor safety culture hacks the corporate reputation of organizations and heightens the potential for occupational accidents and legal suits; hence, the concept of building a positive safety culture particularly in high-risk industries.

He encouraged all levels of leadership in the Authority to deepen adherence to the existing safety work processes.
