With four African countries spearheading the sporting activity, Ghana is set to become the fifth (5th) African country to host walking football on April 27, 2024.
Walking football, a new sporting discipline aimed at promoting physical activity among older adults. With only four African nations currently active in the sport, Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda, and Morocco, Ghana seeks to join the ranks and make its mark.
The inaugural competition, slated to commence on April 27, will see teams representing the Volta, Oti, Greater Accra, and Eastern regions vie for the title in a one-day tournament.
The primary goal of this event is to raise awareness and generate interest in walking football throughout Ghana.
The acting president of Walking Football, Foster Enam Dagadu calls for support from both corporate entities and individuals to expand the game across all 16 regions of Ghana.
With the ultimate aim of fielding a strong squad for the upcoming Walking Football Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup, the sport offers a platform for elders, with an international age limit of 50 years and above.

Foster Enam Dagadu is a prominent journalist and sports administrator, who serves as an executive board member of the Ghana Boxing Federation, as well as president of the Volta and Oti Regions Boxing Federation, is spearheading the initiative as the acting president of Ghana Walking Football.
