The Member of Parliament for Kintampo South, Ms. Felicia Adjei, has issued a strong warning to men who sexually harass women.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on March 12, during the International Women’s Day celebrations, Ms. Adjei emphasized that men often take advantage of women, particularly young ladies serving as maids and storekeepers, and engage in sexual activities with them.
She noted that many victims of rape and harassment remain silent due to fear.
“I’m sad today because I received some information this morning about a young lady who lives with a relative. Every day, the husband attempts to harass her. When she talks about it to her sister, she is accused of trying to ruin the marriage because of the way she dresses and the kind of clothes she wears.”
The lawmaker therefore advised men to zip up.
“That’s why I want to tell men that when they see a young woman dressing in a certain way, it’s not an invitation. It’s just how she feels like dressing.”
“Just because a lady dresses in a certain way, it doesn’t give a man the right to have sex with her.”
She concluded her statement with a straightforward message: “Men, zip up!”
