Nominations have been opened for the 2nd edition of the Women in Mining & Energy Awards (WiMEA) 2022, this year’s event is scheduled to come off on friday the 26th August, 2022 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra 6pm.
The WiME Awards is endorsed by the ENERGY MINISTRY and its purpose among others is to create awareness on the recognized need to increase female presence, their development, participation and leadership in the mining and energy industry in Ghana.
The aim of the awards is also is to acknowledge and celebrate the role, contributions and achievements of women in Ghana’s mining and energy industries. The awards is conceptualized to identify and publicly recognize women who have played significant roles and made significant contributions to the mining and energy industries in Ghana.
The awards seeks to bring national recognition to these women and also promote STEM. There is a mantra in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program that says “you can’t be what you can’t see”, we therefore believe it’s important we highlight the role that women play in these industries and recognize their outstanding contributions and achievements; by honoring these women and sharing their success stories, we hope to encourage more young women to enter into these industries.
The Awards also seeks to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals 5 Gender Equality & 10 Reduced Inequalities.
The theme for this year is “challenging stereotypes and unconscious bias and succeeding; supporting women in mining and energy organizations in their growth path and empowering them to achieve global cohesion and leverage their game-changing collective strength.”
