The fierce resistance from the people of Ada over the lease of 41,000 acres of land to ElectroChem Ghana Limited by the government of Nana Addo Danqwa Akufo Addo, president of Ghana through parliament, seems to be deepening every passing moment.

An event that seems to vindicate the stance of the Ada people has occasioned their call for the government and McDan’s ElectroChem Ghana Limited to back off the Yomo Lagoon in Ada.

The move, the people noted will safeguard the lagoon from desecration.

This call follows the a strange event that converted the Yomo Lagoon into crystal grains of salt.

Speaking in an interview with Nomo Amartey Afedo Ayornor, the Salt Priest of Ada, he emphasized the traditional values attached to the area in question for which reason they won’t let go.

According to the Libi Wonor(Salt Priest), the Lagoon is a designated area for the goddess called Yomo who comes out to bath and rest till the water dries on the body, making the Lagoon and its adjourning lands of traditional importance to the people of Ada.

Explaining the strange occurrence last Friday, October 5,2024, the Ada Salt Priest observed that the goddess had developed lice which accounted for the salt whose lifespan within the location was only three days.

He however indicated that his outfit had been pacifying the goddess to extend the presence of the salt to at least a week.

The Libi Wonor further disclosed that while the strange event is only witnessed in every seven years period, his outfit will pacify the goddess to extend the stay of the salt.

This,he said would allow for people from all works of life to come and benefit from the salt free of charge.

Stressing the need for ElectroChem Ghana Limited to learn from SC Appenteng who took similar case to the Netherlands for adjudication but lost due to jurisdictional matters.

“It is forbidden for anyone to either carry offensive materials to the Lagoon or shed blood within the area”, the Libi Wonor further stressed.
“We are also Ghanaians so stop treating us like animals. We will not leave our livelihood to anybody, they better stop dehumanizing us with armed military, landguards and dogs”,the salt priest said.
