United Television (UTV) has issued a formal apology to former President John Mahama and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a false accusation made on one of its news segments.
In a recent broadcast, UTV had reported allegations against President Mahama, claiming that he will make SHS students rewrite the 2023 WASSCE paper when he wins power in 2024 due to examination malpractices.
The false accusation arose amidst a broader discussion initiated by Mahama, who had criticized the 2023 WASSCE results, asserting that they did not accurately reflect the true performances of the students due to widespread examination malpractice.
The incident has also stirred conversations around examination malpractices, with the Public Relations Officer for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), John K. Kapi acknowledging various malpractices by students.
The PRO further revealed that some schools had resorted to bribery, attempting to influence officials to permit students to engage in cheating during the exams.
