Friendships end, people change, and life goes on but regardless, of what happens there’s always that one thing you can always count on and that’s “you.” So, always make an attempt to take care of your highest support system “yourself”.
They say you are what you eat, so I guess I used to be a chicken and I’m sure my eyeballs used to be yellow, blue, and green peanut M&Ms, oh boy was I delicious, but like everything else that’s good, it came at a cost. Not only did hundreds of packs of M&Ms cost me all my spare change, but I also paid the price of misery and that cost me my joy.
I spent so many days being upset with myself, I could never wear the cute little crop tops that other girls were wearing, well actually I still can’t, but I’ve come a long way. Ever since I was introduced to the three strikes to a healthier life my life has been better. When I first tried to process this idea, I said no way that’s not going to work for me.
For years I struggled with self unsatisfaction until I finally had enough. It was transformation time. After procrastination and frustration, I decided to go ahead and try the three strikes to a healthier life, and that was the best decision that I ever made. That was the beginning of my journey.
That old saying, “Never let them know your next move” well, I didn’t know that it meant for yourself also. It’s funny when you think about it, but sometimes we can’t even tell ourselves the plan because there’s a possibility that we could sabotage ourselves. I realized that every time I mapped out a plan to better my health, it never worked, so this time I tried something different. I tried to keep something hidden from myself.
I thought to myself, I’m going to try the three strikes to a healthier life but I’m not even going to say it to myself. I’m just going to do it. I’ll just have to show myself. So, I said out loud, ok I’m not setting any goals, I’m not cutting anything out of my diet, I eat everything. I’m not changing any of my eating habits, but I will try to do the best I can.
Deep down in my mind, I knew exactly what I was doing. I knew exactly what I was saying. I was in the process of fooling my own mind. The three strikes to a healthier life are cutting out strike one soda, strike two bread, and strike three chicken.
The first few days I was prepared, I had alternative meals already in place, but by day number four I almost lost my mind. I had a long day at work and when I finished, I was so hungry. I had to find something to eat quickly, and every fast-food restaurant that I passed sold chicken and soda. I could not even believe how much of a shortage there was of restaurants that sell things other than chicken.
I thought no wonder all I eat is chicken because that’s all they sell around me. So, at that time it became more of a challenge for me to be creative regarding what I would eat if I was not at home.
I had already begun preparing healthier home meals so the problem that I faced was when I was not home and hungry and had to eat quickly. I started searching for restaurants that sold fish. When it comes to fast food a fish restaurant isn’t that popular either, so I started ordering whatever sides I could, sometimes that resulted in simply veggie fried rice and water.
After a while, it became a full challenge, so I was able to stick to the diet simply because I was trying to challenge myself to find new things to eat and before I knew it I had lost 20 pounds, just like that, and the funny part is that, the weight loss didn’t come as a result of me dieting or eating healthy, but instead, it happened as a result of me being hungry, and simply not having anything else to eat.
The moral of the story is, you strike out the three main, convenient things that you love eating from your diet, and you are bound to lose 20% of the weight, I mean you’re going to lose 10% of the weight just by running around hungry trying to find something that you “can” eat. Take care of your health, you are the most important person in your life.
