A navy duty vehicle came under a vicious attack by a group of unruly youth. The assailants, fueled by a reckless disregard for authority, targeted the vehicle with stones and makeshift weapons, leaving the personnel onboard injured and the vehicle damaged.
This brazen act of violence was not an isolated incident. The naval base in Tema had been the target of similar attacks not once, but twice before. Yet, amidst the chaos and the cries for justice, there was a deafening silence from the media.
In a world where every headline seems to scream for attention, this silence spoke volumes. The media, entrusted with the sacred duty of shedding light on the truth, had turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the plight of those who serve to protect.
As the public awaited a response from the military, there lingered a palpable sense of apprehension. Would the army dare to respond to these brazen attacks? Or would they be chastised by the very same media that had chosen to remain silent?
In the face of such hypocrisy, it became clear that the media, often hailed as the watchdogs of society, had failed in their duty. Their selective silence spoke louder than any headline ever could, revealing a disturbing truth about the state of modern journalism.
As the sun set over the city of Tema, casting long shadows over the wounded naval base, one question remained unanswered: if the media has no eyes to see, and no ears to hear, will they regain their sight and deafness to condemn the military for a second showdown in Ashiaman hosted by the youth in Tema?
Background
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning in response to recent attacks on its installations and personnel, stating that any further aggression will be met with appropriate action.
This caution follows a clash between the youth of Tema New Town and naval personnel, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals on Saturday.
The incident unfolded on the evening of Friday, April 12, 2024, during a street procession organized by the youth as part of the annual Kplejoo festival. Tensions escalated upon reaching the street in front of the Eastern Naval Command, leading to a confrontation between the youth and the naval ratings on duty.
Amidst the altercation, a group reportedly targeted a vehicle belonging to the Eastern Naval Command of the Ghana Navy, causing significant damage.
