The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) has issued a stern statement demanding an apology from popular musician Shatta Wale for his derogatory remarks concerning Stonebwoy’s physicality.
The GSPD expressed deep concern over comments made by Shatta Wale in videos circulating across various social media platforms.
The statement, released on Monday, April 15, highlighted Shatta Wale’s disparaging remarks directed at Stonebwoy, where he allegedly stated, “You (Stonebwoy) are a bad person; that is why God has made you a disabled person. Don’t try and fight an able person.”
Such remarks have sparked outrage within the community of persons with disability, prompting the GSPD to take swift action. The society emphasized that such derogatory comments not only demean individuals with disabilities but also perpetuate harmful stereotypes and discrimination against them.
In the press statement, The GSPD emphasized that such derogatory comments not only offend Stonebwoy but also insult the entire physically challenged community. Referring to Ghana’s Disability Act 715, the society underscored that using a person’s disability to mock them constitutes a punishable offense under the law.
The GSPD firmly asserted the need for Shatta Wale to publicly apologize to every physically challenged individual for his insensitive remarks. They emphasized that an apology from ShattaWale would not only be a gesture of respect towards Stonebwoy but also a recognition of the dignity and worth of all individuals regardless of their physical abilities.
The GSPD further stressed the importance of promoting inclusivity and respect for diversity within Ghanaian society. They called upon Shatta Wale to use his platform responsibly and refrain from perpetuating harmful stereotypes that could marginalize any segment of the population.
