The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Senior Staff Association, Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG) have suspended their intended strike action.
In a press statement, the NEC stated that the decision was made after the government issued a letter outlining the new rates for the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (VMA) and the Off-Campus Allowance to be paid to eligible members.
The NEC explained that the decision was necessary to engage in and conclude negotiations with the government regarding the association’s Conditions of Service (CoS).
The release also noted that all other issues mentioned in the strike notice are being addressed in discussions with the government.
They added that they hope the government will show maximum good faith in resolving the issues within the two-week deadline as per the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on October 2, 2024, which includes the transition of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC) onto the universities’ pay structure.
