The NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament is raising concerns over a possible breach of the Presidential Office Act of 1993 which provides that persons be appointed to the office of the President subject to the approval of the Council of State.

The caucus raised these issues due to what they term as a lack of recourse to due process as letters of nomination appointments from H. E. John Dramani Mahama do not refer these appointments to the Council of State.

Again, they raised concerns over the appointment of the Cabinet Secretary which was captured in the list of appointees to the Office of the President.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, a lawmaker for Okaikoi Central; Patrick Yaw Boamah quoted Article 76(3) which prescribes the appointment of a secretary to the cabinet, thus communication of the secretary ought to have been made separately from the appointment to the office of the President.

Furthermore, Mr. Boamah asked questions about the appointment of a special envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian states demanding answers on Ghana’s foreign policy on these states due to its membership of ECOWAS.

That notwithstanding, they hence called on the president to ensure that due process is adhered to.

“We in the minority believe that the president has acted in breach of the Constitution, he should kindly withdraw the letter and act in consultation with the council of state,” he said
