#DumsorMustStop by Yvonne Nelson might not go as planned, according to a recent report, as the Ghana Police Service has requested an injunction to end the demonstration.
Actress Yvonne Nelson of Ghana has organized a vigil known as “#DumsorMustStop” to protest inconsistent power supplies. The Ghana Police Service has applied for an injunction at the High Court to prevent Nelson from carrying out her planned protest.
This action was taken a few days after the Accra Regional Police Command asked the protest organizers to think about relocating the event. Saturday, May 25, 2024, is the planned date of the demonstration.
The actress claims that her career is being negatively impacted by the sporadic power outage, known locally as “dumsor.”
In 2015, the actress led a demonstration along these lines. By the law, Yvonne Nelson and her group met with the Ghana Police Service a few days earlier to inform them of the planned protest.
Following the discussion, the police objected to the path that Yvonne Nelson’s team had recommended, arguing that Revolution Square, the intended destination, is near the Jubilee House, a security area.
The police expressed apprehension regarding the plan to conclude the demonstration at midnight.
On the other hand, protest organizers disagreed, stating that there were no problems with the protest’s conclusion time and that the endpoint was far from the Jubilee House.
The police have immediately filed an application to stop the demonstration in compliance with the Public Order Act’s requirements.
A hearing on this lawsuit has been set for May 24, 2024.
