Yesterday, on the 28th of July 2023, a devastating accident occurred near Al Duhayra in southern Lebanon, where a company of Ghanaian peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL GH89 is stationed.
According to reports, a civil vehicle collided with a peacekeeping vehicle, resulting in a devastating loss.
The unfortunate incident claimed the life of one Ghanaian peacekeeper, identified as Warrant Officer Class II Abubakari Ibrahim. Our sources have confirmed that WOII Abubakari Ibrahim tragically passed away due to the collision.
Additionally, two other Ghanaian peacekeepers were injured in the accident and are currently in critical condition. They are receiving urgent medical care in Beirut to stabilize their conditions.
In response to this heart-wrenching incident, the United Nations has issued a statement of condolence to the family of WOII Abubakari Ibrahim. The UN expressed deep regret and mourned the loss of one of its dedicated UNIFIL peacekeepers from Ghana.
