Lawyers in Search of Democracy (LINSOD), have declared their full participation and support for organizers of the procession to occupy the Bank of Ghana demonstration on October 5th, 2023.
In a release signed by Eric Delanyo Alifo, Esq, all members are urged to participate fully in the demonstration, and if possible many of their lawyers who may be willing, to appear in their suits, or even in their wigs and robes.
According to LINSOD, for the first time in the Fourth Republic, there is a huge, unprecedented loss of GHc60.8billion by the Bank in the year 2022; the printing of about GHc77billion to finance government budget in contravention of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612) amended by Bank of Ghana (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 918); the writing off of GHc48billion loan advanced to the government of Nana Akufo Addo and Dr. Bawumia in contravention of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921); and very exorbitant and extravagant spending by the Bank on its topmost senior staff and other internal operations.
Also, they indicated that they have followed the assessment by international economic rating agencies of the performance of the Ghanaian economy over the last couple of years and equally have monitored the commentaries and discussions by distinguished economic and governance experts, all of whom have established without doubt that the current economic hardship and high cost of living in Ghana are due to the reckless borrowing and expenditure of the government, and the collaboration of the Bank of Ghana in illegally printing excess money for the government to spend.
They hence accordingly, cannot help but join the Minority Caucus of the Parliament of Ghana and their other partners, who are planning to mobilize Ghanaians to demonstrate and occupy the Bank of Ghana on October 5th, 2023 to demand the immediate resignation of the Governor, his deputies, and the governing board of the Bank.
