Governs Agbodza, the minority chief whip, has sarcastically suggested that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) be renamed the “New Patapaa Party” to those who follow the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.
His proposal comes after the Akufo-Addo administration announced plans to finance the construction of the Accra-Tema Motorway so that a private company would handle the job.
The Adaklu MP harshly chastised NPP members for not being patriotic in managing the affairs of the country while speaking on the floor of Parliament during the discussion on the mid-year budget review.
Governs Agbodza said that the NPP government’s actions are not indicative of the name of the party.
The lawmaker also criticized the government for being insensitive to Ghanaians’ situation by using excessive borrowing to hire a foreigner when local contractors could have done the job just as well.
This document claims that the Accra-Tema Motorway will be funded by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIFF). Therefore, we will go borrow money, deposit it in GIFF, and hire a foreign company to do this project. We can assure you that we will never help you. What party do you belong to? Where are you being a patriot, New Patriotic Party? When we tell you to, you don’t listen, so you best alter your middle name to ‘patapaa’ because it has nothing to do with patriotism.
How is it possible to borrow money from a Ghanaian and then wish to give it to a foreigner? If we are going to spend money on the Accra-Tema Motorway, it must be built.
