The King of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has denied that the nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) implies the palace’s support for NPP.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, a nephew of the Ashanti Monarch, was recently nominated for the position
Following the nomination, Otumfuo publicly advised Dr. Opoku Prempeh to avoid letting his running mate, Dr. Bawumia, down, offering words of wisdom.
During a courtesy call by the running mate of John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the king clarified that while Dr. Opoku Prempeh is his nephew, it does not mean that the Manhyia Palace will vote for the NPP or NDC.
He emphasized that the palace remains neutral in the upcoming elections.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, accompanied by party executives and supporters, visited the Asantehene today.
She expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for the warm welcome
“We thank you for welcoming us to your place. We are grateful for your continuous pieces of advice to the NDC party over the years,” she said
