Sunday Alabi, the Secretary, National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union indicated to the media that his outfit has decided to suspend the ongoing sit down strike.

The strike which was embarked upon last Tuesday,May 21,2024 aimed at demanding for an improved conditions of service.

Addressing the media in Tema today, Friday, May 25,2024 Sunday Alabi, Secretary of the Tanker Drivers Union disclosed that his outfit’s decision followed the acceptance of their demands by the Association.

According to Mr. Alabi, the suspension does not mean a total called off but they are monitoring to ensure the right thing is done.

In a communique, copied to Ghana News Guide, the driver union indicated that the framework for their remuneration has been adopted with its implementation expected to commence by June 2024.

Despite the already agreed policy, which aimed at enhancing their salary framework and other working condition which has been pending since November 2023 which the National Petroleum Authority(NPA) and the sector Ministry have refused to implement,they are positive that their demands will be met.

The sit down strike was as a result of failure to adopt proposal.

However, upon further deliberations between NPA, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations,Transporter, Tankers Drivers amongst other stakeholders at a meeting, the Drivers have decided to suspend their sit down strike.
