The minority is seeking the approval of the House to invite the Electoral Commission and the Inspector General of Police to appear before the House of Parliament.
Their appearance, according to the MP must be initiated before the Finance Minister presents the Mid-year budget.
The presence, according to the minority will be necessary to explain whether financial commitment of the finance ministry to ensure safety, peace, and credibility.
Though, Joseph Osei Owusu who presided over the house did not make any order in accordance, but the Temale South lawmaker, Honourable Iddrisu stressed their presence will keep the elections away from fear.
The presence of the duo, he revealed, will aid in allaying the fears of the general public in the run up to the elections.
His calls comes at the back of submission of Honourable Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwame Dafeamekpor South for the house to summon the EC chair for explanation regarding the limited voter registration and the voter transfer as well as the mop up yet to be embarked upon.
To him,the move will assist MPs to prepare financially and other means to meet up with the challenge of the exercise.
The South Dayi legislator made the statement corroborated by the Tamale South lawmaker today in parliament Friday, July 13,2024.
He justified the reason for their invitation adding that it will help secure the sanctity of the upcoming elections.
According to him, the Electoral Commission has the sole responsibility to tell Ghanaians if they have all financial demands met or otherwise.
He said, “the decision is to enquire from the EC if the finance ministry had met their financial demands”.
For the EC, he said parliament would have to hear them if government had met them adequately, reasonably or half-way,
Honourable Iddrisu noted that beyond the EC, the IGP ought also need to be called.
The Majority Chief Whip, Annor Dompreh assured the house of liaising with the commission in a bid to respond to the various questions.
