Bernice is an entrepreneur from Ghana, known for her work in sustainable transportation. As an advocate for smart mobility systems, she has made significant strides in promoting eco-friendly transport solutions that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Her efforts have gained international recognition, making her a notable climate trailblazer.
Bernice’s passion for bamboo led her to develop a green alternative to traditional bicycles. Her innovation earned her the title of Bamboo Ambassador from the World Bamboo Organization in 2015.
Recently, she was honored as one of the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) and has become a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum. She also holds fellowships from Harvard University and Oxford.
Through her company, the Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative, Bernice is transforming the cycling industry. Her company makes high-quality bicycles from bamboo, a renewable resource that helps reduce carbon emissions and supports reforestation. For every bamboo plant used, Bernice plants ten more, promoting sustainability.
The Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative also focuses on empowering women by providing training and job opportunities. Bernice’s team, mostly women, gains skills in bamboo cultivation, bicycle assembly, and business management. Her vision for sustainable transportation extends beyond Ghana, aiming to foster environmental stewardship and economic growth.
