Mahama has announced the first set of ministerial nominations to the speaker of parliament in accordance with article 78 of the 1992 constitution

A statement issued by the presidency on January 9, said, President Mahama has submitted the ministerial nominations to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

1. Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson — Minister for Finance Designate

2. Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor — Minister for Energy Designate
3. Hon. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine — Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate

John Abdulai Jinapor, the Energy Minister-Designate under this new NDC administration. He is the MP for Yapei-Kusawgu in the Savannah Region of Ghana and served as Deputy Minister for Energy under the first Mahama administration from 2013 to 2017.

His younger brother, Samuel Abu Jinapor, is a member of the NPP and represents the Damongo constituency. He served as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources from 2021 to 2024. In July 2024, following the resignation of Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, President Akufo-Addo appointed him to have Cabinet oversight responsibility over the Energy Ministry.

It means that whether it is the NDC or the NPP that is in power, “Jinapor” is still getting appointments.

This teaches us not to “put all our eggs in one basket”. The only difference between these two is the party colours. So whether Ghana becomes “blue or green,” their surname will still have relevance.

Their father, the Chief of Buipe, Abdullai Jinapor II, once commended the unity between his sons despite their political differences and urged Ghanaians to take a cue from them. Let us embrace diversity in our homes, communities, and workplaces. Also, take your chances at the various opportunities because if ‘A’ fails, ‘B’ might succeed.
