The Member of Parliament for Madina, Lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu, has adopted 20 orphans from the Madina constituency, vowing to provide for their educational needs.
The adoption ceremony, held at the Pantang Basic School, was attended by local officials, community leaders, and representatives from the NDC National Welfare Directorate and the creative arts industry. Lawyer Sosu, known for his advocacy for education and social justice, expressed his commitment to supporting vulnerable children in his constituency.
Speaking on the sidelines of the “Compassion Outreach” under the office of the Madina MP, Lawyer Francis Sosu said this is a special project meant to reach out to needy and destitute orphans within the constituency. And this has been part of his emergency relief approach for a very long time, because any child who is out of school on account of inability to afford, or because their parents have died should not be encouraged. And that is why it’s important that, as a leader, you look around the community and see as many of these children that you can identify and provide some assistance for them.
“These children are the future leaders of our nation,” he said. “As a leader, it is my responsibility to ensure they receive the best possible education to unlock their potential.”
The 20 orphans, ranging from ages 3 to 16, were identified through a thorough screening process in collaboration with the assemblyman and the unit committee members in the Pantang electoral area.
“Of course you can’t do all, but you can always start from a point. And that’s why today we are beginning this project by adopting 20 needy and vulnerable orphans. We are hopeful that we will take care of all their educational needs, from their feeding fees to the materials that they need, like books, textbooks, school uniforms, as well as their school bags, to ensure that they can easily go through school” he stated.
Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu indicated that each child will receive, Full tuition fees for primary, junior high, and senior high school, School uniforms, books, and educational materials, Regular mentorship and counseling sessions, Medical care and health insurance.
“We are hopeful that we can replicate it in every electoral area, so that children who are destitute within the community can have assistance and support. That is what the SOSU Orphan Project is all about” he said.
The lawmaker revealed that once upon a time, he lived in the orphanage. Because he was a street child and was destitute as well, he couldn’t pay his fees. And that’s why he was on the streets.
Lawyer Sosu’s foundation, the “Sosu Education Initiative,” will oversee the program, working closely with schools and community stakeholders.
“The children you see today are the future of tomorrow. So the kind of care and quality education they get is what will determine their eventual outcome. So we are hopeful that we will be able to support them from now to the tertiary level, or to whenever they become independent” he added.
Lawyer Sosu’s gesture has been hailed as a beacon of hope for vulnerable children, youth, women, the disability and the aged in Ghana.
“Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty,” he emphasized. “I urge others to join me in supporting our future leaders.”
As the adopted children beamed with joy, Lawyer Sosu’s words echoed in their hearts: “You are not alone; you are loved, and your future is bright.”
