Following the twists and turns that accompanied the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill, coupled with unnecessary delays, Honourable Agnes Naa Momo Larteh praised the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for what she termed exceptional leadership.
She credited the Speaker’s leadership style, which, according to her, contributed to making the bill a reality.
The elated Krowor Constituency legislator, who could not hide her joy, was optimistic that the bill would address inequality within the country.
Honourable Agnes Naa Momo Larteh was speaking in an exclusive interview after the passage of the bill in parliament on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Underscoring the relevance of the passage, Honourable Agnes Naa Momo Larteh opined that it was not only welcome news but would also offer equal opportunities to all genders.
The Speaker of Parliament, being an advocate for correcting imbalances in society, was credited by Honourable Naa Momo for the several amendments made in a bid to make the law fit-for-purpose.
While upbeat about the successful passage, the Krowor legislator expressed hope that the Ministry responsible would implement the necessary measures to ensure proper enforcement of the law after the President’s assent.
She underscored the resilience and relentless efforts of the Gender Committee of Parliament, which worked on the law—a committee of which she is a member.
Honourable Agnes Naa Momo Larteh maintained that the law would benefit not only females but males as well.
This, she noted, would help create a just society for all, where discrimination would be a thing of the past.
She also noted that women’s leadership would see a boost, and urged everyone, particularly women, to take advantage of this opportunity and enhance their innate abilities.
