Ghana’s primary telecomunication networks (MTN and Telecel) have experienced internet disruptions today as a result of undersea cable breakages.
The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications said the interruption in internet connectivity being experienced to an outage on multiple submarine optic fibres into the country.
The Telecoms Chamber in a statement on Thursday (14 March) investigations are underway to resolve the problem and restore services to customers.
The statement said the development is impacting internet, data and Voice over IP (VoIP) services of its members.
“There are outages on multiple submarines optic fibre cables that come into Ghana. Some of the cables are down while others are delivering limited capacity.”
“This is impacting internet, data and Voice over IP (VoIP) services of the members of the Chamber and Mobile Network Operators and Data Service Providers to varying degrees. As a result customers and subscribers are currently experiencing service challenge,” the statement said.
