Ghanaian musician Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, has been elected as the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President of the University of Ghana.

Alongside his running mate, Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, Guru secured 50.7% of the vote, with a total of 9,455 votes, after a voter turnout of 18,659.

The election followed weeks of intense campaigning, legal battles, and disqualifications. Guru had initially been disqualified due to being a non-resident student, but the school’s Appeals Board overturned this decision, allowing him to contest the election. Despite the SRC arguing the disqualification was valid, the Vice Dean eventually directed that his name be included in the ballot.

Guru and his team will now lead the SRC for the 2024/25 academic year, following their victory in the contentious election.
