The Groupstand for Peace, Growth and Development has urged the government to deploy national service personnel to help develop the agriculture sector
The organization proposes that these young individuals be integrated into the agricultural sector to bolster food production, enhance export capabilities, and revitalize the economy.
“Ghana possesses immense agricultural potential, yet we continue to face significant challenges in food production and exportation,” stated Happy Agbenyenu, Executive Director of Groupstand.
“By redirecting national service personnel towards agriculture, we can harness their energy and innovation to strengthen this vital sector.”
The organization outlined several key benefits of such an initiative:
- Increased Food Production: Direct involvement in farming activities can help meet local food demands and reduce reliance on imports.
- Export Potential: Increased food production can lead to significant export opportunities, generating foreign exchange and supporting the national budget.
- Job Creation: The initiative can stimulate job creation in both the agricultural and related sectors.
- Economic Revitalization: A strong agricultural sector can have a ripple effect, boosting related industries and fostering economic growth.
They also called on the government and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the allocation of national service personnel to agriculture. The organization believes that a well-structured framework, including training programs and resource access, is crucial to ensure the success of this initiative.
“By investing in our youth and in the future of agriculture, we can unlock the potential to transform Ghana’s agricultural landscape and create a sustainable economic future,” concluded Agbenyenu.
