Some Ghanaian students studying at the University of Bradford in the UK on government scholarships are forced to pay their fees as the Scholarship Secretariat has failed to release funds upon several attempts by the school

These students counting over 50 are now being forced to pay their tuition fees out-of-pocket due to a failure by Ghana’s Scholarship Secretariat to release the necessary funds to the university.

Information reaching Ghana News Guide indicates that the university administration informed the affected students that despite repeated attempts, the institution has been unable to recover the fees owed by the students’ sponsor—the Scholarship Secretariat.

“In line with our credit control policy, the invoice to the sponsor has been cancelled and raised to you for payment,” the university’s statement read. “At this point, normal collection procedures would usually apply. We understand this may create concerns and want to ensure we can support you with next steps.”

The situation has created significant anxiety among the students, many of whom are now unsure how to meet these unexpected financial demands. Efforts to reach the Scholarship Secretariat for an official comment on the matter have yet to yield a response.

Many students are urging the Ghanaian government to intervene and expedite the release of funds, ensuring that those on scholarship are not left stranded in their academic pursuits.
