Asante Akim District in the Ashanti region, Konongo, will host faith leaders on Monday, 21st October 2024, for a peaceful walk against galamsey.
The walk will include leaders from various religious bodies including Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and other religious sects in the country.
It is aimed at showing the position of faith groups on Galamsey as an act that is harmful to the environment.

“Bring together faith leaders from all religions in the country to hear what they have to speak to power with a strong call for Galamsey to come to an end” organizers shared.
Among the leaders taking part in this walk are the Imam for Nima Central Mosque; Malam Sule as well as president of the Inter-Congregational Justice and Peace and Integrity of Creation, Ghana (JPIC), Reverend Father Nicholas Aazine, SVD. Also participating in the walk will be pastors and faith leaders from Konongo and neighbouring communities together with their congregations; environmental groups and associations as well as community and thought leaders from across the country.
The march is led by GreenFaith Ghana, a subsidiary of the mother group, GreenFaith Africa which is an amalgamation of faith leaders from across the continent aimed at adding their voice to issues of climate change and responsible environmental stewardship. The walk is organized in partnership with the Ghana branch of the Catholic Youth Network for Environmental Sustainability in Africa (CYNESA).
Following the walk, organizer will convene a press conference to speak to the media on the calls they are making and lines of action put in place.
They are by this extending a hand of invitation to all faith groups and leaders from across the country to join hands in sounding this clarion call to put pressure on government to take decisive action that will end the destruction of land and water ways caused by Galamsey.
