Ethiopian federal government has announced a ban on the importation of diesel and petrol vehicles by foreign diplomatic missions.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this directive applies to all diplomatic and consular missions, as well as regional and international organizations operating within the country.
The new regulation mandates that these entities must exclusively use electric vehicles (EVs), which can be imported duty-free. The decision reflects Ethiopia’s commitment to addressing the “pressing challenges posed by climate change” and aligns with the country’s broader efforts to transition to renewable energy sources.
This measure underscores Ethiopia’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and contributing to global environmental goals, setting a precedent for other nations in the region.
