The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced its decision not to uphold the parliamentary election results declared in nine constituencies following the December 7, 2024, general elections.

The affected nine constituencies are Dome-Kwabenya [Michael Aaron Yaw Nii Nortey Oquaye (NPP), Akurugu Faustina Elikplim (NDC), Dora Nyarko (PNC), Remy Paa Kow Edmundson (PPP)], Okaikwei Central [Patrick Yaw Boamah (NPP), Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq (NDC)], Ablekuma North [Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh (NPP), Ewurabena Aubynn (NDC)], Tema Central [Charles Forson (NPP), Ebi Bright (NDC), Frederick Aniagyei (Independent)], Nsawam-Adoagyiri [Annoh-Dompreh Frank (NPP), Patrick Tetteh (GFP), Fummey Philibert Amenorpe (NDC), Golo Kojo (Independent), Mustapha Rasheed (Independent)], Obuasi East [Patrick Boakye-Yiadom (NPP), Samuel Aboagye (NDC), Adjei Owusu Afriyie (Independent)], Ahafo Ano South West [Osei Mensah Dapaah Elvis (NPP), Sadiq Abubakar (NDC)], Ahafo Ano North [Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh (NPP), Kwasi Adusei (NDC)] and Techiman South [Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah (NPP), Christopher Beyere Baasongti (NDC), Donkor Moses (PPP), Boyoung Iddris (Independent)]

Speaking at a news conference at the Commission’s headquarters in Accra today, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the collation of results in these constituencies had been disrupted by supporters of some political parties, rendering the process incomplete.

“In the view of the Commission, upholding such unlawful collations and declarations would set a bad precedent for our country and take us back to the dark days,” Mrs. Mensa said.

She further emphasized that allowing individuals to use force to take over the collation process and declare themselves winners would undermine Ghana’s democratic principles.

The EC Chairperson called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President-elect John Dramani Mahama, and the National Election Security Task Force to ensure that the Commission is provided with adequate security to carry out its mandate effectively.

“We call on the National Election Security Task Force to work together to put in place arrangements to ensure that our staff and processes are protected and secured,” she added.
