Donald Trump has been projected to be elected the 47th president of the United States, marking a return to the White House four years after his contentious exit.
CNN projects Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, with his pivotal win in Wisconsin securing the 276 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency. Trump’s return is a moment of profound significance for American democracy, as he becomes the first former president in over a century to reclaim the Oval Office and, at 78, the oldest president ever elected.
Following his victory, Trump addressed supporters in West Palm Beach, Florida, vowing to “restore America to greatness” and promising a “new golden age.” Joined by his family and his running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, Trump praised his supporters, declaring the outcome a “magnificent victory for the American people.” He pledged to bring his full energy and determination to the role, committing to what he described as a renewed mission to fulfill his campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
This win caps an extraordinary journey for Trump, who left office amid controversy, including two impeachments and a felony conviction. Undeterred by a tumultuous legal battle and two assassination attempts, Trump’s campaign gained traction, bolstered by support from high-profile figures like Elon Musk. The billionaire entrepreneur, who owns X (formerly Twitter), publicly supported Trump throughout election night, sharing celebratory posts as results rolled in.
Trump swept key battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, which were projected to be tightly contested. With a lead in Nevada and a strong performance in other crucial regions, he is projected to win the popular vote—something he did not achieve in his first presidential campaign in 2016.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris, who had planned to address supporters at Howard University, her alma mater, in Washington, D.C., has yet to speak publicly. She is expected to make a formal concession later today.
