The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike on November 7, 2024, due to a prolonged delay in finalizing a new salary structure.
CLOGSAG previously communicated its intention to strike in a press statement dated 22nd October 2024, in anticipation of a new salary structure for staff of the Civil Service and Local Government Service. This decision highlights the government’s failure to implement the proposed salary structure, despite an understanding reached between both parties.
However, Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, in a press statement on Monday, 4th November 2024, described the proposed structure, set to be implemented on 1st January 2025, as a “mirage.” He added that CLOGSAG will no longer engage with the Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Mr. Benjamin Arthur, citing a lack of honesty.
“As a result of the prolonged delay in completing a salary structure and other conditions of service for the staff of the Civil Service and Local Government Service, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has no other option but to instruct our members to stay at home from Thursday, 7th November 2024,” he stated.
