The Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), at its AGM and educational conference held at the Rock City, Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern Region of Ghana, elected new executives for a two-year term commencing January 1, 2023.

Various stakeholders in the Ghanaian insurance industry have also appointed representatives to the CIIG council. The Council is the highest decision-making body of the Chartered Insurance Institute, clothed with powers to steer the affairs of the institute for the term of office.

Mr. Shaibu Ali, president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG) and CEO of KEK Insurance Brokers, is on the Council as a representative of the broking fraternity, while Mr. Nashiru Iddrisu, CEO of Hollard Life, represents the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA).

Mr. Richard Okyere, executive director at the Ghana Insurance College, represents the college on the council, just as Mr. George Otoo, head of the audit at the National Insurance Commission, represents the NIC. Mr. Tawiah Ben-Ahmed, the immediate past president and CEO of Sanlam Life Assurance Ghana, remains on the CIIG Council as an ex-officio member.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), and the Chamber of Corporate Trustees (CCT) would, in the next few days, present their representatives to the council. In his speech, Mr. Solomon Lartey said membership in the institute is open to all individuals and organizations that are engaged in the practice of insurance, directly or indirectly or have personnel who are engaged in the practice of insurance.

He said the CIIG would be engaging the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), banks, and other entities that make use of insurance professionals to join the institute in the near future.

The Council was inducted into office on January 20, 2023, at an investiture service held at the NIC auditorium in Accra. Their mandate is to strengthen the various structures of the institute, consolidate all gains made so far, and grow the organization.
