Three teacher unions have declared an industrial action effective today Friday, November 4, 2022, over the failure of the government to meet their deadline to terminate the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as acting Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The unions are the Ghana National Association of Teachers, the National Association of Graduate Teachers and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana say though the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has called them into a meeting to discuss the intended strike action, their leadership will not call off the strike until the Director is removed from office.

The unions say Dr. Nkansah was a banker and not a professional teacher so he cannot lead the affairs of the education sector.

They also are demanding the government terminate the contract of the Deputy Director General, Anthony Boateng after he has reached the retirement age of 60 years.
