A close collaborator of President Patrice Talon arrested by the Republican Guard

In Benin, the arrest of Olivier Boko, a close collaborator and close friend of President Patrice Talon, shook the political scene on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

This influential businessman, who has been by the president’s side for over 20 years, was apprehended by agents of the criminal brigade, according to several local sources. In an official statement released on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 25, the prosecutor revealed that the arrest was linked to an attempted coup involving Olivier Boko and former Minister of Sports Oswald Homéky.

They allegedly handed over 1.5 billion CFA francs to the commander of the presidential guard in an effort to convince him to stage a coup against the current government. The investigation is ongoing to identify all individuals involved.
