Africa Baobabs, a sports NGO for Basketball, Baseball and Tennis and lesser known games has donated equipment worth 30,000 Ghana Cedis to the development of basketball at Ho Technical University and its environs.

The donation includes a pair of fiberglass backboards and spring rims, marking a significant upgrade to our university’s sports facilities. The donation which came as a response of the co-founder of Africa Baobabs Mr Berthold PaaJoe Gadagbui (he is also the Secretary to the Ghana Basketball Development Fund Commission under Madam Aurora Toppar-Commodore the GBBA Treasurer and Mr Ato Van Ess the President of the Ghana Basketball Association) to the call of the school’s Students Representative Council (SRC) for sponsorships was made in 2023.

According to Mr Gadagbui who happened to be the SRC Sports Secretary in 2000 at KNUST, he has been advocating for local sports kits producing companies to support local sports in the country, the donation was to honor the pledge they had made to do so after the maiden Volta Corporate Fun Games last year with the Volta Regional Minister Dr Yaw Archibald Letsa, the Chairman of Association of Ghana Industries for Volta, Oti and Eastern region Mr Dela Gadzanku and Mr Ernest Danso, Ghana President of Baseball and Softball.

“We donated after realizing the infrastructure at HTU had not been upgraded for years. After this initial phase, we intend bringing local and international accredited Sports actors to help sports in the region. Soccer cannot take all the sponsorships and hype. Other games matter and this is a clear example at the recently held Africa Games where a country Like Egypt swept most of the prizes.

Investment in Sports, Education and Entertainment pays big in other countries and Volta, Oti and Eastern region businessmen and women can support and provide sustainable jobs and opportunities for the youth,” said Mr Gadagbui.
