After being taken into custody on Monday, June 3, actor Kwadwo Nkansah, better known by his stage as Lil Win, was granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong District Court.
Shortly after being released from the hospital, the actor was taken into custody by authorities from the Manhyia Divisional Command’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department.
His detention is related to a recent incident in which the actor was driving a car that claimed the life of a three-year-old child.
The three-year-old boy’s family became more vocal in their demands for justice following the loss of their relative, but police said Lil Win’s health condition was the reason Lil Win’s arrest took longer than expected.
Lil Win faces charges of careless injury and reckless driving. The accused should make himself available wherever he is required, the prosecution told the court, adding that they are still looking into the case.
Additionally, the prosecution claimed that the accused’s health was the reason the case was postponed. Nonetheless, Margaret Adjei-Twum, Lil Win’s attorney, stated that her client should be given bail so that she can receive treatment because she sustained injuries, including internal bleeding.
According to her, her client enjoys widespread popularity in the nation and is unlikely to evade justice as the case moves forward.
Despite her client’s incomplete recovery, she added that the police had compelled them to appear in court. The Asokore Mampong District Court was well guarded by police.
The case will now take place on June 27, 2024.
The incident occurred early on Saturday in Kumasi’s Amakom neighborhood in the Ashanti region. Witnesses reported that Lilwin abruptly swerved into the opposing lane while traveling quickly from the Amakom crossroads toward the WAEC location.
His car struck a private family’s car, which was transporting a father and his four-year-old child, head-on.
The wounded actor went to his film’s Kumasi premiere that same day, following the disaster. Later on, according to his management, he was being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s Emergency Unit.
The administration of “A Country Called Ghana” in Sunyani has decided to postpone its June 1 debut out of respect for the youngster who was involved in the accident.
